Keeping Your Devices Healthy Long-Term

It’s always exciting to get new devices, be it the latest phone, laptop, tablet, or desktop. Maintaining long-term health is easy to achieve. We will list the recommendations that are easy to follow, so that you can make sure your device, whether personal or professional, maintains optimal performance.

Maintaining battery health for your devices ensures that everything else runs smoothly. Not a lot has changed in the last ten years in terms of how you maintain your devices, but it is still important to follow these easy steps to elongate your devices’ life.

1. “Kill” apps you’re not using.

Applications are what makes our devices so powerful. Unless you go in and manually quit, X, or swipe up to remove the app, you are leaving it running in the background, using your battery and shortening the lifespan of your battery, and device, long-term.

2. Remove old and unused applications.

In order to have the space to be able to run the applications you need, make sure to erase, or uninstall, applications that you have not opened in the last three months, or have not been updated by their developers in the last year.

You want to pay special attention updates from developers because those updates usually come with bug, security, and compatibility fixes, especially as many devices get updates systems every year.

3. Don’t overcharge your batteries.

It’s a habit to leave our devices charging overnight, but it would definitely be better to charge it for a limited time during the day. You want to charge it to 100% and use the battery til 0% once a month, and charge it up to 80 or 90% the rest of the time.

4. Update your software.

While it was quickly mentioned in reason 2 (remove old and unused applications), the importance of updating your software as soon as it is available is vital to keep your devices running smoothly and without any bugs.

Software updates usually come with better security, new features, and bug fixes.

5. Physically clean your devices.

Wiping down and dusting your devices can make a significant difference in overall, long-term performance for your devices. Although it sounds obvious, cleaning your devices will prevent overheating and be hygenic.
